Modern slavery and forced labor prevention

Modern Slavery Prevention Certification

Help demonstrate how your organisation identifies, assesses and responds to risks of forced labor, human trafficking and exploitation in its operations and supply chains.

Blue Wolf Certifications is the exclusive auditing partner of the Ethical Trade Alliance (ETA). We conduct independent assessments against ETA’s Modern Slavery Prevention Standard. ETA makes the certification decision and issues certificates.

Certification offers independent assessment of the practices required by the standard. It does not guarantee the absence of modern slavery or replace legal due diligence.

What the audit examines

Assessing Modern Slavery Prevention Practices

The audit considers the requirements in the current ETA Modern Slavery Prevention Standard, within the agreed scope. Depending on the standard and your operations, relevant evidence may include policies, risk assessments, recruitment practices, worker protections, supplier controls, grievance processes, incident responses and management oversight.

The exact criteria, required evidence, scoring and certification rules are governed by ETA’s published programme documents. Please obtain the current standard before relying on any summary.

Frequently asked questions

Modern Slavery Prevention Certification FAQs

Straightforward answers about audits, certificates and responsible labour practices.

What is Modern Slavery Prevention certification?
It is an ETA certification programme that assesses an organisation against the ETA Modern Slavery Prevention Standard. Blue Wolf conducts the audit; ETA makes the certification decision and issues any resulting certificate.
Is modern slavery the same as forced labor?
Forced labor (forced labour) is one form of modern slavery. Modern slavery is a broader term that may include forced labor, human trafficking and other severe exploitation. The applicable ETA standard defines the audit requirements.
Does certification guarantee there is no forced labor in our supply chain?
No. No audit can guarantee the absence of hidden exploitation. The assessment examines the management practices and evidence required by the ETA standard within the agreed audit scope.
Can this help with customer and procurement requirements?
Certification may provide independently assessed evidence for customer or supplier due-diligence conversations. Whether it satisfies a specific contract or regulatory obligation depends on that requirement.
Who conducts the audit and who issues the certificate?
Blue Wolf is ETA’s exclusive auditing partner and conducts the audit. ETA independently reviews the results, makes the certification decision and issues the certificate.
Can we purchase the ETA Modern Slavery Prevention Standard?
Yes. Blue Wolf is authorised to sell copies of ETA standards. Contact us for the current edition, format and pricing. Buying the standard does not influence the audit outcome.
Is certification the same as compliance with modern slavery legislation?
No. Certification does not automatically establish compliance with the UK Modern Slavery Act, Australian Modern Slavery Act, US import restrictions or any other legal requirements.
How long does the audit take?
Duration depends on the agreed scope, number of locations, workforce and supplier complexity, and availability of evidence. Contact Blue Wolf for an individual quotation.
