About the standard

What is ISO 37001 certification?

ISO 37001:2025 sets requirements and guidance for an anti-bribery management system (ABMS). It addresses prevention, detection and response to bribery through leadership, risk assessment, due diligence, financial and non-financial controls, reporting, monitoring and improvement.

It applies to organizations in public, private and not-for-profit sectors. Certification assesses the management system against the standard; it does not certify that bribery has never occurred or guarantee future legal compliance.

Current edition: ISO 37001:2025 replaces ISO 37001:2016. Organizations holding older-edition certificates should discuss transition arrangements with their certification body.

Core ABMS elements

  • Leadership commitment and an anti-bribery culture
  • Bribery risk assessment and appropriate due diligence
  • Conflicts of interest and the anti-bribery function
  • Financial and non-financial controls, gifts and hospitality
  • Speak-up channels, investigations and response
  • Training, internal audits, management review and improvement

Common questions

ISO 37001 certification FAQs

What is ISO 37001:2025?

ISO 37001:2025 is the current international standard for anti-bribery management systems. It specifies requirements and guidance to help organizations prevent, detect and respond to bribery.

Who can seek ISO 37001 certification?

Public, private and not-for-profit organizations of different sizes may seek certification, subject to the certification body’s accredited scope and acceptance criteria.

What changed from ISO 37001:2016?

The 2025 edition strengthens emphasis on anti-bribery culture, conflicts of interest and the anti-bribery function, and aligns the standard with newer management-system terminology.

Does certification guarantee there will be no bribery?

No. ISO 37001 certification is an independent assessment of an anti-bribery management system; it does not eliminate risk or guarantee compliance with every applicable law.

How much does ISO 37001 certification cost?

Costs depend on the number of personnel, sites, organizational complexity, risk profile and required audit duration. Request a tailored quote.

How long does ISO 37001 certification take?

Timing depends on the maturity of the system, scope, audit availability and closure of any nonconformities. We can discuss the likely audit schedule.

Can we transfer an existing ISO 37001 certificate?

A transfer may be possible following a review of the certificate, accreditation, audit history, edition and open nonconformities. Acceptance is determined by the certification body.

What happens after certification?

Certification normally follows a three-year cycle with surveillance audits and recertification, subject to the certification body’s programme and applicable requirements.
